The Kiwanis Club of Lapeer is dedicated to serving the children in our community. We are generous with our time. We are creative with our ideas. We are passionate about making a difference. And we have fun along the way!
The Kiwanis Club of Lapeer welcomes your interest in membership. We are a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. This club of over 40 members has served the community for over 80 years - since October 1941. We continue to play a key role and recognize the many needs of the Lapeer community. Serving through volunteering is at the heart of our mission as well as raising funds to assist with charitable events and needs.

Membership is open to men and women over the age of 18 without regard to race, sex, color or creed. Prospective members are invited into membership by being sponsored by an active club member. Members shall subscribe to the Objectives of Kiwanis International as outlined in the "Frequently Asked Questions" section of this website. Your membership officially begins when the Board of Directors approves your application, which will typically be the 3rd Thursday of the month following receipt of a completed application.

Please Note - The Volunteer Application is required due to the fact that we sometimes come in contact with children due to the nature of our club in supporting the community and children's programs and activities. All new members will need to submit and pass the free Volunteer Application through Lapeer Community Schools. Once a favorable report has been received, your membership application will go before the Board of Directors for approval.
The steps for becoming a Kiwanis Club of Lapeer member are:
- Attend at least two lunch meetings. Potential members must have a current member willing to sponsor them.
- Complete the Membership Application and the LCS Volunteer Application.
- Lapeer Community Schools processes the Volunteer Application and either approves or declines status.
- The Board of Directors reviews the Membership Application and either approves or declines membership.
- Potential Member is contacted with membership status and interim dues amount due. Interim dues must be paid prior to membership induction.
- Member is inducted at a Wednesday lunch meeting.
- New members are encouraged to get involved. Join a committee, volunteer, get to know other fellow Kiwanians. All members receive weekly Kiwanis Bulletin, monthly Kiwanis magazine.

Member Bylaws and Policies
Members in good standing are entitled to all rights and privileges of the club. To be in good standing, members are obligated to pay the dues and fees provided in club policy and must uphold member duties in the bylaws and policies set forth by the Club, Michigan District, and Kiwanis International.

Types of Memberships
Regular Membership - An individual of good character and corporations of good community standing who are willing to maintain good standing with the club by payment of all relevant dues and fees and adherence to other standards stated in club bylaws are welcomed. Members in good standing with a club shall be entitled to all privileges of club membership.
Corporate Membership - A company or business may sponsor one or more individuals who agree to participate as active members. Should the member or members change jobs or otherwise leave the company or business, that entity can appoint a new person to participate as an active Kiwanian without losing credit for attendance, and will not have to pay a new member fee for the new person. The person leaving the company or business is then invited to join as a regular active individual member.
Honorary Membership - An individual is eligible to become an Honorary Member. An Honorary Member shall not be obligated to pay either membership induction or annual membership dues, and shall be entitled to all privileges of club membership, except those of voting or holding office.
Senior Membership - An individual is eligible to become a Senior Member if they have been an active member in good standing of one or more Kiwanis clubs for not less than ten years and be unable to meet attendance requirements because of health, business or other extenuating circumstances. Senior members must pay annual membership dues and are entitled to all privileges of club membership. A senior member must meet the standards of attendance and participation set forth by the Board of Directors, which is to attend a meeting at least once per month, and participate as much as possible in club activities and fundraisers.
Life Membership - An individuals who achieves life member status are those who perpetuate the Objects of Kiwanis and objectives of Kiwanis International. Recipients must hold active membership in a currently chartered Kiwanis club. Full information on Life Memberships can be found here on the Kiwanis International website.
